Claudio Accardi
Born in Milan, Claudio Accardi was very interested in international politcs as a a young journalist of a local newspaper. Haired at RAI, the italian state-owned tv-radio, he joined the newly born third channel and became very soon the director of the “international office”.
During that period he had to report on fall down of the berlin wall, the huge demostration at Thien Amen Square of the chinese students fighting for their freedom, the fall of the authoritarian regime Nicolae Ceasescu in Romania, the Kuwait invasion by the Iraqui troops and the american bombings of Bagdad.
After that period he moved to channel two on the call of Paolo Garimberti as head of the internation office. That was when the conflict in Northern Ireland became more violent and he reported on that too. In 1997 he took over the RAI office in Jerusalem and there he followed the alternate phases of the Jewish-Palestinian peace process till the failure of the Camp David meetings.
Those were very intense experiences from a professiona and human point of view. At the end of year 2000 he was nominated RAI corresponden from New York and soon after he mooved back to Europe, in Moscow. He died in Rome, defeated at the end of a short and harsh battle against cancer.
